An Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Higher Education
The TranSustain HE project, coordinated by Necmettin Erbakan University, has been awarded a €250,000 grant under the Erasmus+ Programme – Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education (KA220-HED), supporting the development of innovative, data-driven approaches to sustainability in higher education.
Entitled “TranSustain HE: Transforming Sustainability in Higher Education with a Data-Driven Digital Assessment System,” the project aims to develop a transparent, measurable, and data-driven digital model for assessing sustainability performance in higher education institutions.
The TranSustain HE project is coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özdal Koyuncuoğlu from the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Necmettin Erbakan University. The project management team also includes Prof. Dr. Fırat Yaldız from the Faculty of Political Science and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saadet Korucu Kış from the Department of English Language Education at the Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Education.
Building on Necmettin Erbakan University’s experience in academic cooperation, TranSustain HE is implemented through close collaboration with a strong international partnership network. Project partners include the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), the Konya Plain Project Regional Development Administration (KOP), the University of Thessaly (Greece), and the International Balkan University (North Macedonia). In addition, the project establishes a new academic partnership with the Institute for Legal Sciences, Research and Development – OPHIZ (Slovenia), further strengthening its international and interdisciplinary scope.
TranSustain HE aims to develop a holistic and digital sustainability assessment model for higher education institutions. The project will deliver a data-driven digital assessment system supported by a legal framework aligned with international standards, along with institutional guidelines and policy documents for universities. Capacity-building training materials and a sustainability-oriented graduate-level curriculum will also be developed. These outputs are designed to support evidence-based decision-making and to enhance sustainability governance in higher education across Europe.
Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özdal Koyuncuoğlu emphasizes that TranSustain HE represents an important step toward establishing a comparable, data-driven, and continuously improving sustainability framework for universities, contributing to the long-term transformation of sustainability policies in higher education.
This project is co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme (2021–2027), Key Action 2 – Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education, administered by the Turkish National Agency (TR01), Grant Agreement No. 2025-1-TR01-KA220-HED-000362010.
